Well seeing how this is my first post, I would like to say 'Hello' to everyone.
I have a 2002 Series I 3.5lt TJ Advance that just stalled while I was driving and now won't start.
The car cranks over fine but doesn't fire at all. I have had a mechanic look at it, he checked for spark and fuel pressure which were both good but he came to the conclusion that the ECU was faulty. I replaced the ECU BEM Antenna Keylock etc from a working donor car with the same part number, this didn't fix the problem. The fueltank was flushed and good fuel replaced (old fuel was ok anyway) , fuel filter and air filter changed, distributor cap, rotor button and 6x new platinum plugs replaced.
I just replaced the battery with a new heavy duty one also.
The diagnostic mode showed no faults and the dash lights etc all operate as normal. The BEM to ECU brown wire continuity was fine also. All fuses have been tested (multimeter) and ECU relays etc. All connectors in the engine bay & dash have been checked, all seem ok. Timing belt is intact and tension seems normal. 2 key remotes & keys have been coded and function normally also. I checked injector pulse using a noid light, front bank was ok. I removed the front bank plugs and they were covered in fuel but i noticed they were all black. There is a strong smell of fuel once it has been cranking for a while, like it is flooded/flooding? Would a faulty fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator causing incorrect pressure cause this problem.
I have almost exhausted all my options (checking old threads etc) but would a faulty CAS cause this even though i have spark or could another sensor be causing this? I read somewhere that an ABS sensor can cause this problem? Or transmission fault to the ECU could be the cause?
The car was running perfect before this and showed no signs of failing. Any help or advice would be great as I only want to tow the car to Mitsubishi as a last resort. Oh and sorry for the long post
