Hi all
I have recently acquired a TL magna, and can find no reference to repacking the wheel bearings anywhere. Does it need to be done? or are they "sealed for life".
Cheers and thanks for any help

sealed for life.
Where have you been? People haven't repacked wheel bearings, or greased suspension or universal joints for decades! Grease gun sales have hit rock bottom! lol
And before you ask, they are not adjustable either. When they develop play, they get replaced. (Not easy, not cheap)

Commercial vehicles - in particular the most recent Holden Rodeo's and Colorado's require bearings to be repacked at every other regular service interval. Then again it is a commercial vehicle and the technology on them tends to be older and simpler.

I guess I was thinking of the common run of the mill front wheel drive Japanese designed econobox. lol
About the only place I can think of where grease is needed in a third gen, is a light smear on the clutch throwout components when you overhaul a clutch, and some on the lip of new oil seals can't hurt. And a light smear on the oil filter seal when you put one on . . . . . probably other places too that I can't think of. lol

Believe it or not but mazda 3's bearings also need regreasing every 40000km according to mazda
, weird ah?

Thanks all. And many 4wd vehicles need wheel bearings repacked as well.

They went away from taper rollers to double row ball bearings as they are cheaper, come pre packed with grease, have the clearence setup already and just bolt straight in with no skill required. Theres no chance of stuffing it up by getting dirt in there or preloading the bearings too much. I've seen a few people stuff up taper rollers by putting way too much preload on them causing them to over heat and fail.
The taper rollers will carry a much higher load, but also generate more friction due to the design.
