yeah just bought a new magna (two days old) and i have noticed an odd scraping sound coming from the front wheels somewhere. Normally only does it for a sec while driving out of corners under normal acceleration, and another time going up a hill. Anyone have any ideas what it could be? At this stage i am adopting the attitude that it will either become worse and they will fix it under warrenty, or it will go away.. but just thought someone on here might have an idea...

If it's only two days old then depending on what state your in there may be a cooling off period (3-7 days). U may be able to take it back and ask for a new one or your money back. the dealer will certianly bend over backwards to fix it if you try this. I wouldn't be happy with a car that presented a fault under 10'000km with regular servicing.

that happened to my car after driving on gravel tracks. stones get into the wheels and scrap when driving but after a while it comes out.
but i don't think this is ur problem with the new car unless the sales rep had a go on the gravel track

Does it appear to only come from the front left wheel?

If so, it is probably only the tire rubbing on the inside of the wheel arch.

Turn the wheel full lock to the right and then check the clearance between the front of the wheel and the arch (left front wheel)

There is not much clearance there anyway, and the fact the car is new, means there is even less, with the increased tread depth.

I had the left inner plastic guard replaced on my VRX under warranty as it began to sag enough that it would rub every time I turned right!

Definitely take it back and get them to take a look! :)

VRX_MY02 - yes it does seem to be only coming from the left, and it also seems to be only an intermitent problem, so your idea sounds about right. I am thinking i will wait and see untill its 1500k service and if its still doing it them get them to have a look. Interestingly i had a TR magna that always scraped the right side through corners when you went quick cos there was bugger all clearence for the front tyres.. you would have thought mitsubishi would have rectified this problem by now...

benau - no cooling off period unfortunately :(

Rall!art - no gravel tracks but i can think of a few places it might have picked up a stone or something, but it doesnt really sound like that kind of sound

thanks for your help!
