Ok this may be because i come from a holden/commodore background where cannons are a dirty word and considered very ricey etc, but what benefits does cannons have as opposed to a high flow sports muffler that just looks like a normal muffler? I know there are alot of people who like the look of them, but is it also cos they sound different or give more power or what? Just wonderin cos i wanna do the exhaust on my 3.5 soon and just trying to sus out whats around. Anyone have any videos of their 3.5's with exhausts???
umm they look and sound rice.........so if u want rice i guess thats a benefit,
personally i prefer the subtle look/sound of a hi-flow with a nice tip on it.
from what i know cannons are pretty 'straight-through' so performance gains would be much the same as a hi-flow muffler im guessing.

Cannons are as straight though as they can get when speaking about mufflers, quality ones give a nice low throaty growl, cheap milo tiny ones give a high pitches bark, aka 'droney' especially if you bolt one to a 4 banger
Ive got a cannon with my 3L, low rpm TINY drone (1-2k) but when it opens up.. it screams power ,backfires at times, and I got told today it was shooting flames? Another memeber 'braez' has the same muffler his backfires alot, with a nice low growl.
Its up to you, 'Rice' stainless steel milo hot dog mounted sideways with a nice note for show or a hiflo muffler with tip with the same effect, just needs to be worn in, more subtle as previously stated.

IMO, cannon + magna = :doubt:
Makes a magna look like a supersize version of an all too common riced up lancer

"Cannons" are just oversized resonators; they often don't have any stuffing inside and instead use a sound cancellation effect to quieten the exhaust. As they are typically so small they are generally much louder than a full size muffler but can offer around the same amount of flow.

yeah i think i will just go with a conventional streight through muffler with a nice downpipe tip i think :) I cant put extractors on my car cos it will void warrenty, and from what i can see the rest of the exhaust is all pretty good, so only the rear muffler is worth replacing..

it'll only void warrenty on the exhaust system. get extractors you skirt!
unless its an auto

Depends on your Mitsu dealer TC..
Some will place the fault of an engine problem on better quality exausts (like some headers) while others are fine with it.
The place i goto are fine with my POD, Extractors and soon to be replaced catback.. Only thing they wont ok is a piggy back on the ecu.

i guess so. it might be to do with the then non factory power output and therefor stress components a little more  i donno tho ive never had warrenty

Regarding warranty with extractors, not only the warranty on everything downstream of the extractors can be affected. For example, O2 sensors will definately be affected depending on the placement of them in the aftermarket system; over torqueing the threads etc. The increased diameter and different routing of the runners can also cause heat issues with other components in the car as, as quite often the aftermarket exhaust does NOT use HPC coating, heatwrap, or any type of heat shield like the factory exhausts do.
We have knocked back warranty due to extractors as they have caused steering racks to fail from the heat (heat radiation), melted wiring harnesses, overheated transmission fluids and causing them to slip and self destruct, or changed the torque curve as such that the powertrain module calibration for transmission slip comes out of tune; this will then cause transmission overheat and consequent failure.

i've just put my old cannon back on mine, and while i am enjoying the low to mid range growl, i am not a fan of the loss in responsiveness. may be due to the loss of some backpressure..... will prob end up changing back.

 it's that serious? are the problems specific to gen2s only?
mine are coming next wk...

other then that they're good though..

Up until about 35mins ago I was going to get a cannon. I have a redback cat back system on mine. But I am not thinking of taking my rear muffler off and putting a nice tip on it and let that be that.
I will give my opinion on my exhaust when I get something back inside my cat.
