So I've been calling around getting prices for replacements..
I've been told TE - TW are all the same.
For some reason I was of the understanding that they were slightly different.
Can anyone clarify this..?
Also..
Remove hub etc.
Pull CV out..
Lever out little spring clamp
Replace CV and knock her in with a nylon hammer till you hear it click.
Then go backwards..
Right..?
I've only done corolla ones before and wanna confirm I'm all good with the process..

TE - TW are not all the same
The TE to TW 4sp Auto and Manual are the same
The TJ to TW 5sp Auto have a different passenger side shaft
Dont bother with individual joints, if you can get a reasonable quality new shaft (no not $75 ebay ones lol) then that is your best bet. If your Rada is the 5sp (series 2 KJ) then the passenger side shaft will be an issue, when I do these I get the inner repaired and the outer replaced ONLY if it needs doing, the issue is with all aftermarket shafts the outer boot is rubber where with the Mits ones they are plastic, the plastic lasts 100 times longer than the rubber. Personally when I need a drive shaft for a 5sp auto I will always recommend a new OEM but they are not cheap

Have you tried Driveline Services at Colebard Street, Archerfield?
I've heard favourable things about Australian CV Joints & Power Steering at Slacks Creek (who, from what I read, advertise a 3 year/60k warranty on their CV shafts, whereas Driveline has a 2 year/40k warranty)

Kinda put a speed bump in my plans to attempt to do it myself..
The $40 odd dollars in labour is what is going to annoy me..

Better hold back on that island in the Caribbean you were eyeing off mate..
Lucky you didn't do it yourself, the shaft could have fallen out because it was so low... Or so they say lol
How much did the shaft set you back? Is it new, used or remanufactured?

Have you called Driveline or Australian CVs yet?

27-08-2012, 03:23 PM
Yup..
Neither have the shaft in stock.. But are willing to do a 3hr turn around on one.
Paul knows about it and will deal with it tomorrow.
I have a 'temporary shaft' in atm..

Thats it..
They said when they took the shaft out.. It look fine!
However he did say that the Poly Mount makes a HELL of a vibration.

Well, it is noted that the poly mounts don't absorb the vibrations as well as the rubber mounts, but rather transmit the vibration throughout the car. Trade-off for durability I suppose.

Do you want the part number as I think I have it, I assume then the 120 trade was fitting as there is no way on earth they are even close to that, I know Mits cost prive is near triple that lol...or they misquoted and have worn a loss
..GONE..
27-08-2012, 08:56 PM
I have supposedly seen Trade on them and $450 - $500 for a CV is crazy money..
Replacing just the outer joint would be bucket loads cheaper..
Maybe get that done instead.. I'll have a chat to Paul tomorrow and see what he thinks..
If all else fails.. I'll call ya Mal and order a shaft if you've got one..

So..
3 shafts Yesterday
4 shafts Today
NOBODY has the right shaft.. Wait.. The LEFT shaft.. Everyone has the Right Hand shaft..
Thankfully, A caffeine addict from the Mid West, HOPEFULLY gets supplied the correct shaft and brings it down to me.
I will hand it to the mechanic and hopefully we'll have placed this whole f**k up into the WIN column! (If that subtle hint does not let you know who the caffeine addict is.. then god help you)
