I am sure this would have been talked about before, but a fair amount of searching has yielded no results. Most just seem to recommend SWI-X. But, this unit I am trying to install comes with a wire for steering wheel controls and I want to use that.

Thing is, it only has one wire, while the (TJ Xi) control has 2 wires coming from it.

Has anyone done this before and can shed some light on how the steering wheel controls work?
I assume one of the wires connects to 12V, the metal plate to gnd and the other wire is the signal wire?

What sort of signal is sent? The head unit lets you choose between the 1k and 10k ohm range when programming, so I am assuming that it is like a temperature sensor in that it has a different resistance for each button and allows the unit to read different voltages?

I have tried different connection set ups, but cannot get it to work, although I did get the control backlight to come on...
Does operation even need the 12V, or is that just for the backlight?, Is the backlight normally always on?

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Totally possible.

Look into Pax Swix or Swijack.

You cannot simply use the wire that the HU comes with. you need a translation box. Hence the suggestion for the Swix. The remote has a power wire, and a signal wire and that is it.

I thought Swix was just for that IR reciever workaround? Not overly fussed on that if the HU supposedly has a wire for that job,
Do they have a hardwire wire signal system too?

Do you know what form the mitsubishi signal is in? Is it ohms?

No I don't know what it is in ohms. The PAC company make several devices for the different HU companies. The one I last installed was hard wired for an alpine.

It was one of the easiest installs ever. Well
Worth it. Works brilliantly and is very programmable.

Can't help further mate.

K thanks anyway.

I just thought it wouldn't need something like that since it has a system for you program the controls for each button within the software of the headunit,
i.e select the operation, press the button, and it saves it.
