G'day all. I'm looking at getting a new double din head unit for my Verada. I've searched these forums and elsewhere for answers to these 2 questions but couldn't find any.
So I've removed the factory unit to check wiring etc and found that as well as the main connector that there's a small 8 pin plug that also plugs into the rear of the audio unit, although it has only 2 wires connected to it. Does anyone know that that is for? I'm thinking stearing wheel audio controls but I don't want to connect it as such in case it's something else and may cause damage.
Also, I want to use the auto dimming feature of the new unit for night driving. There doesn't appear to be an existing connection for this in the car but please correct me if I'm wrong. That being the case is it as simple as finding the backlight power wire that goes into the ventillation controls that are below the audio unit and connecting it to the corresponding wire of the new unit? Hope that makes sense.
Thanks in advance and sorry if these questions have already been asked and answered elswhere.

I've got one of these units that I installed myself: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/170853034483?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
The auto-dimming works when it senses the headlights turn on and has steering wheel input/calibration to work with your verada.
You're in WA? I'd be happy to help with wiring.

munkeymaqnz, thanks for replying and the offer to help with installation. Where are you located? I'm in Kingsley.
The unit I'm currently looking at getting is this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/271038893040?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649
I have also ordered this wiring harness adapter so I hopefully won't need to mess around with wiring much. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/260669370103?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

No worries, I'm in Menora/Mt Lawley area. If you want a hand, let me know!
That unit looks similar to mine (also came from Mildura) and it's quite a solid device. The adapter will save a bit of time with the wiring side of things, it'll just need some extra wires for steering wheel controls etc. Also, I recommend a reversing camera as they're cheap and integrate nicely with the unit.

Initially I was going to install a reversing camera but I'm not too keen on running the cable. I recently put reversing sensors in the wife's car and it was a lot of trouble and took a lot longer than I'd anticipated. I'm getting too old for this kind of stuff, but admittedly it still is tempting. Where did you mount the camera and how hard was it to run the cable?
Your car looks great. I'd really love to see it some time regardless of whether I take up your generous offer to help with the install. I think the silver is the nicest colour for this car, followed closely by white (which is what I have).

The reversing camera wiring isn't that hard. I mounted mine in between the number plate lights as it's such a tiny camera. Then it takes power from the reversing lights and sends a 12v signal up to the head unit along with the video signal (so it knows you've selected reverse). I just ran the wiring down the boot arm then under the back seats, under the edge of the carpet where the kick panels are.
You're welcome to check out my car - should come to a WA event/meet sometime too!
