Hey guys, i tried searching the forums but couldnt find the information.
im looking to install a new audio system in my 1995 magan TS SE V6. i currently have a kenwood head unit and some alpine 6/9s for the parcel shelf, but would also like to install some speakers into the front of the car. I was thinking of putting some splits or other speakers in the doors but do not know which (if any) speakers will fit, does anyone here know the depth of the front doors? or any speakers that would fit somewhere in the front that have decent sound quality. im thinking somewhere in the 200 dollar range.
any and all help/advice would be very much appreciated.
I'm assuming you don't have the door pods if you're asking if they will fit at all. My understanding is any 6-6.5" speaker will go into the factory position in the lower front corner of the door. Have a look around for some pods from a Verada, should make both fitment and finish much easier and cleaner. I'd go splits personally, put your mids in the door pod position and tweeters in the factory 4" location in the dash. It'll bring the sound stage right up where you want it to be.

Depends if you going to run an amp for the front speaker or drive them off the head deck. I'm running a set of hertz splits in my TR with a custom plywood spacer driven by my head deck. They sound good :) Cost for the speaker were 100 dollars. My TR build thread shows you the modded door card.

Thanks for the reply Lugo! that sounds like a good idea, ill check around for some door pods, but just putting some 6-6.5" splits in the factory doors is sounding pretty appealing.

I am going to get an amp, a friend of mine has reccomended i run the front speakers throught the head unit and then run the rear and sub through an amp into the head unit. Thanks for the info ill check out your build thread!

That's terrible advice - run the front speakers and sub through the amp, and run the rear speakers off the headunit.

No prob :P
I was in a rush when I wrote that post. To put it in as few words as possible, sound is directional, and as the driver, your front speakers are what's aimed at you. So you want to focus your efforts on improving the sound from your front speakers, not your rear speakers.
Many sound quality enthusiasts fade out their rear speakers, or disconnect them altogether. You don't need to go to that extreme if you don't want to, but you should at least concentrate on your front speakers (eg they should be amped instead of the rears, and you should spend more on your fronts than your rears).
The lower the frequency, the less directional it becomes, which is why you can put your sub in the boot.
