View Full Version : Removal of 380 Bonnet protector
I tried to remove the bonnet lip protector over the weekend, it's only filling up with leaves and getting dirt in there.
Underneath the bonnet I had to remove the rubber strip to reaveal the screws that were holding it in. But all they seem to do is spin around like theres a nut on the other end, but I can't see any way of putting a tool in there to hold onto the nut. So currently they just spin around, and it seems they've gotta go back in after the lip has been removed so the rubber stays stuck on as well.
Has anyone removed them before?

Are they like the plastic screws that just spin around and need to be flipped out?

AKA scrivets.
If they are, grab a small flat blade screwdriver and stick it between the edge of the "screw" bit and the "cap", and lever up the screw. Then, once it's head is sticking up a bit, grab it with small pliers and pull it out. Most times that will damage the screw, but no biggie if you're only going to throw it away anyway.
It's a metal screw with a white plastic surrounding, they'll need to go back in after as the rubber seal on the bonnet clips onto these to stay in place.

The white plastic washers will break if you remove and clean the bonnet protector on a regualr basis. The trick is with the rubber seal , and the need to be careful when removing the item to clean it. To date I have no real problem as I remove it and re-install it each time I wash the car. It should take about 10 minutes.
I don't want to be removing it to clean it regularly, I'd rather take the whole thing off.

take it off before the clips start rusting and transfer the rust onto the paint on your bonnet.. speaking from first hand experience (bought the car with one on)
Sounds like yours may have been installed incorrectly. I'm the second owner of this 380, it came with the bonnet protector factory fitted, there are little material strips stuck on the bonnet between the metal clips and the paint. They've been on there for 5 years and no rust.

Lol yeah probably what has happened :(
Took them bonnet protector off this morning, got the headlamp protectors off the other week, they just slid off really easy.
