Hi everyone,
I've been trying to find a thread on here regarding a member that replaced his reverse lights with much brighter ones. I find myself needing to do something similar to my car, but I can't find the thread any where. Searching hasn't helped unfortunately.
Any ideas? I need my reverse lights to be bright enough so my reverse camera is actually useful at night hehe.

Michael (maggie3.5) has HID reversing lights in his 380, see page 17 of his Member's Rides thread:
http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=74723&page=17.
Unfortunately the pics don't show any more, maybe he can resurrect them or point you to them.
Michael also installed the same in my 380 a few months ago, and all I can say is they are fanbloodytastic!
I now have heaps of reversing light, enough to light up half a suburb behind.
I need much better than the feeble stock reversing lights coz my night vision is crap, and with the stockers I could hardly see a thing at night.
Now I can see nearly as good as in daylight!
So well worth doing.

Thanks Kim,obviously in real life, the color is no where as bluish...its just so white and it lights it up so well.

I can vouch or maggie3.5's HID lights. The other night I was following him. At a set of traffic lights, and he put it in reverse. Was that bright, I thought I was getting flashed by a Safety Camera while waiting for the light to change for us!
I've been thinking about doing this as well lately, I can't see diddly squat if I'm at my olds at night time, and theres plenty to hit around there.

okay, now its not to say that what i have done is the be all to end all.
There are a lot of "high powered " (http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/Car-Truck-Parts-/6030/i.html?_nkw=cree+led&_catref=1&_fln=1&_sac=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m282)globes out there.
Sure ,it sounds cool to say you have a set of HID in your reverse lights ,
but ,you still need to by a cheapish kit at around forty (http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_nkw=h7+hid+5000k+&_sacat=6030&_sop=15&_dmpt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&_odkw=h7+hid&_osacat=6030&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313) bucks and then wire it all up,its not plug and play.
A H7 is the best globe base to use ,as it almost fits straight into the socket hole of the tail light.
Also ,the lights have to "warm " up ,so it isn't instant light ,sure ,it takes only 5-9 seconds ,but ,some thing to be aware of.

Ideally I don't want to have to make any mods, just a brighter globe. From other reading, a W16W is what I need apparently. Of course, unless the globe throws out a lot of light, there's not much point doing the change at all.

Looks like the ones in the link above would be suitable. Thoughts?

Yeah that's what I was thinking, although I don't know what equivalent wattage my current reverse globes are.

you will have to realize that led will be fare more directional than the current globes ,so whilst the stock ones rely on the reflector housing to "give 'you light, the led are going to be little spot lights in there.

So I went ahead and bought the 7W ones... cost $27.01 for the pair with expedited shipping.

New lights arrived today. Will see how well they perform tonight. Even in daylight, the difference between the globes is quite striking.

I got my 5w LED today, try it on and the differences are pretty obvious, est around 20%-30% brighter i think.

So yeah, definite difference at night with the 7W LED's in. My reverse camera is now useable at night even with no light source other than the LED's. Money well spent.
