Hey guys.
On the weekend I'm planning on an overhaul of my engine, cleaning, and all that. What can I do to squeeze a bit of extra performance and better experience? Eg cleaning the idle piece below the throttle body can sometimes fix up rough idles.
What else can I do apart from oils and fluids?

Clean out the throttle body/inlet manifold area using upper cylinder cleaner (ideally Subaru Upper Cylinder Cleaner, part number SA459), clean your MAF sensor with some MAF cleaner available from Repco. Run a bottle of fuel injector cleaner and fuel system cleaner when you next fuel up.
Check your filters (oil, air, fuel), replace as necessary

Replace your air filter. They can get pretty nasty. A nice clean one will make your car run that tiny bit better.

Speaking of air filters, where can they be gotten? Are they just a normal item I can get from Autobarn? (autobarn is the only local auto shop open til 6pm, so i can get there in time..)

Pretty much anywhere that sells spare parts...

Yep, Autobarn stocks them. As do Repco and Supercheap. Such a common item to replace, they would be fools not to keep them in stock.

When I bought an air-filter recently, neither autobarn or supercheap had any in stock, had to order one in. I ended up going genuine, and was surprised that it was cheaper than the others also. Sometimes genuine is actually better and cheaper.

I might have a crack at doing the engine and trans oil on the weekend. What is involved in doing it, and what products will I need to buy before hand? Idealy I want to head over to the shops tomorrow morning, get whats needed, and knock it over in one go (engine oil, trans fluid, filters too)
I want to clean the sump and anything else that might be worth cleaning/replacing.. basically overhaul everything to maximise the life of the engine aswell as performance.
Cheers guys.
