So I always reset mine every time I fill up the car. My question is re: fuel consumption. Does the computer need to reset every time for accurate readings or just leave it and it will realise a full tank is in and will again determine the average consumption.

I'm pretty sure it calculates average consumption based on 20 hours of driving time and then rests after that. So if you want reading based on a tank of fuel you should reset it every time u fill up

I was under the impression it just took kms travelled and fuel used and averaged it...

I had the same understanding as HaydenVRX.

At the moment I'm resetting every morning, will be doing this till next Tuesday when I fill up. I'm trying to get an understanding of my fuel consumption, total km/s etc. Fuel light came on today with a range of 150km on the computer, thus giving me a reading now of 0. Does anyone know how accurate the readings are that it gives you?
It will be interesting at the end of next week to compare the readings over a week vs that of daily resets.

Yes thats right but it resets itself every 20 hours of driving....

It's usually very accurate. If I've used 60 litres it will say I've used just over 60. It's always slightly over what I can fit in the tank. This difference could be down to how full the tank is though. The filler pipe probably holds the difference.
As my daily driver, I never touch it...don't read it...don't care about it...if I drive on a long trip/holiday, I will use it then.

I like to reset when I fill up so I can check the litres used against the litres that actually went into the tank. Any significant variation would indicate a problem somewhere in the fuel system.

I *had* a faulty fuel gauge for a while so I had to always completely fill the car up and rely on the fuel used. My trip computer is amazingly accurate, always within 1Litre either side of what I fill up. When I fill it, I fill it right up until it nearly dribbles out so I know it's accurate.
I still reset the computer each fill-up and reset the main trip meter each week to compare how much driving I do and for costs etc.

Double check whether you're running a 3.0 or 3.5.
When I first got my TH I set my trip computer to 3.0 litre engine because I thought it was. however when fueling up it would start at 490km range and by the time I was running on fumes it said I still had 150km of fuel left. Now that I've set it to 3.5 litres (which mine is) it starts at 560km range and by the time i'm on empy it's saying either 60km or it's got - - - which indicates less than calculateable fuel.
To answer the OP's question, I reset instantly after refueling as I go by fuel consumed so I can refuel when I have as little as fuel as possible (driving very carefully when more then 55L consumed to avoid engine starvage) to avoid shitty fuel building up. Although some might argue it's better to refuel regularly so it's not picking up shit in the bottom of the tank.

Well I can tell you that I'm deffenatly running a 3.5ltr in my TL VR-X. I've had it for about a week now and I'm running the numbers to see what kind of economy I'm getting compatered to my old 3.5ltr TF. I'm keeping a trip log and resetting after each trip. Next week I'll be resetting at fill up and then comparing weekly vs daily.

Double check the trip computer is set right? Do the TL's go through roughly the same set up process as the earlier 3rd gens, where when the battery is disconnected the computer needs to be set to 3.0 or 3.5, and sedan or wagon?
I reset mine every time I fill up. Seems rather accurate, always been within 0.2L of what I actually put in to fill it.

I reset every time i refill my LPG tank so i can get a good picture of my fuel use (i like to compare my L/hr, ratio of lpg to petrol, and other stuff).
it seems that my trip computer is calibrated for the factory 15" wheels... it was more accurate (~1%) when they were fitted, as the ralliart rims w/ 225/50's go further per revolution the readings are out a bit (~5%).
Yes thats right but it resets itself every 20 hours of driving....
L and W series trip computers reset after 199 hours. It is kms travelled vs fuel used and is reset after their respective time periods or when manually reset.

What an excellent conversation starter! I reset mine every time i fill up. Even with the 6G75 upgrade and SKR tune, it still reads accurately on the servo pump counter. Cheers!
