Hi Guys,
I note that the manual advises to prime lifters with diesel fuel.....:eek2:
Could I ask if this is the preferred method used by others ?
I'm guessing it's related to the viscosity of oil versus diesel fuel and therefore the difficulty of priming with oil.
Anyway, just looking for opinions before I go out and buy 1 litre of diesel

Diesel fuel is used to clean and prime the lifters, and a primed lifter can then be used on a leakdown device to test if it is within specifications. No real need for diesel if you want to just prime them. Use a very light oil instead, need to submerse standing up and probe the ball valve gently while you pump it up and down, so you need a container big enough for this, and about a litre of whatever anyway, so if you can get diesel, why not?
I've used ordinary engine oil to prime new ones but it is difficult to get all the air out, so . . . . CLATTER CLATTER for a while. Meh, was ok after a while.

Thanks MadMax - that's what I was hoping.
They're new lifters - basically doing a full engine rebuild on this thing, replacing everything we can afford to replace.
The perils of buying a used car - you have no idea how stuffed things are until it's too late, so decided to spend the money and start with a (hopefully) known good starting point.

I remember priming the lifters on an EF falcon. Ice cream container full of oil, lifter, and a paper clip pushing down on the ball. Now that was a while ago. Worked a treat, no clatter whatsoever.
