Hay guys

I have just purchased my second magna it's a 2001 kj verada 4sp auto with triptronic. I got the car cheap so I'm planning to put a 5sp auto in her and get rid of the 4sp. Is swapping the gearboxes possible and what parts will I need. Gearbox and ecu?

Cheers kurt

I'm not in any way up with information on this, but I think the front left driveshaft is different from 4 speed automatics.

A search goes a long way - here's a recent thread on doing the conversion http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-92850.html and here http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-82632.html

From memory there can be an issue with TCL. I've heard of people reflashing their ECU's using a Evoscan 1.3U port cable and loading AWD (?) Rom's on and avoiding the tcl problem.

Otherwise - if you do install tcl, then you're going to have to change the dash & engine looms, ecu & bem (or reflash ecu), tcl throttle body, tcl ecu, tcl dash switches, tcl vacuum pump & hoses as well as a few solenoids in the engine bay. It's a fairly big change.

And KHVerada is right - the passenger side driveshaft for the 5sp auto is also different.

Search, search and search before asking!

Yeh I should of searched the forum. Found some stuff about it. I found out Wat I'll need witch wasn't as bad as I thought and get the parts of mal. Performance wise 5sp is alot better than the 4sp. But fuel economy 4sp abit better. Mal by reading some threads definatly doesn't like how it changes early upto 5th.

5 spd is 28 spline inner

4 spd is 27 spline inner

I've got two spare that are on their way to requiring rebuilding.

Australian CVs in Slacks Creek do them on an exchange basis.

So if required, instead of me rebuilding the two shafts and selling em on the forum, if you want one let me know, you can have one for $50.

I think you would be a lot better off if you just bought a 5spd magna to many hassles

And get your fact straight before posting, kj verada has tcl already.....

The basics needed are int drivers shaft, engine loom, ecu, trans and pass side shaft, if you want to see the 5th gear on the cluster then more is needed but why bother

What would be cheaper for you to do, 5 speed auto or manual conversion?
