Hi Guys

Sorry if this has been posted, I was driving and got a Oil pressure warning light, I checked the oil and topped up, now it wont go away, when I start it the light goes out but after about a minute it starts to sound like there is no oil getting to the top of the motor or something and the light comes back, I have a bad feeling this might be something sinister, however I have only done around a 140 000 kms, I had the timimg belt and tensioner and stuff done on time, now I am at a loss so I thought I would ask if anyone knows

Cheers

Don't drive with it on!!

You have confirmed oil in sump is at right level then:

1 Filter is blocked - either with dirt or filter fault ? does oil look very dirty on dipstick

2 Oil pump is faulty - eg pressure control bypass failed?

3 Presuure Switch is faulty - seems unlikely as you can heart top end rattles when light is on

Sorry can't offer any better news

You need to check it up with the mechanic, could be as simple as pressure switch spoilt or as serious oil pump failure.

If you need to arrange a tow I can do this and do a proper oil pressure test, if you drive and you really have not got pressure then you are wrecking your motor, you do not get second chances with oil pressure. The oil pump is the heart of your motor, no blood flows, your motor dies

The fact that it goes away initially with cold, thick oil, then returns shortly after when the oil warms... combined with you saying the top of the engine is sounding starved... sounds terminal. I hope for your sake it's not.

For some dash warning lights you can go "Meh, I'm ignoring that".

The oil pressure light ISN'T one of them.

Get it checked before you need a new engine.
