View Full Version : Generator tension pulley mount on Sprintex Magna broken! S/C not working!

You can see my dilemma! The generator pulley came loose, S/C belt came free, and car reverted to unforced aspiration:swearing:. On closer inspection, it is revealed that the mount has broken off, the casting sheared through:mad:. My question is, before asking the same of my local Mitsub dealer tomorrow, is this mount casted to the engine(big problems if it is!), or is it a bolt on mount that I could obtain/buy and have fitted? I cannot see into the area concerned enough to make out what the mounting set up is! But I did notice that the belt runs over the top of the tension pulley and not underneath as some 6G74 motor pictures have indicated(different with S/C in the set up?). This means the belt pressure on tension pulley is downwards, not upwards, as is normally the case. I am wondering if this eventually caused the shearing of the mount? The belt in question(S/C) also runs water pump, and A/C compressor, as well as the alternator/generator, so I need to get it done, and I want my S/C back!! Can anyone enlighten me?

Not sure about the Magna tensioner setup but I'd imagine its similar to mine on the 380. I cracked mine early on when I first installed it & it was a Gates part which I got from a bearing supplier. Sprintex can probably give you the part number.

No, this is not it, it's a ps41 with the Sprintex S/C set up on top, but thanks anyway for the link, and thanks to Foozrcool also, glad to know it's a part. Now to find one!!

If you are talking about the standard tensioner pulley for the alternator and aircon pump on the 6G72 and 6G74, it is mounted on a carrier which is separate to the engine block. To replace it, you need to remove the crank pulley, engine mount, plastic covers, cam belt. The bolt that holds the front idler pulley for the cam belt also holds on the tensioner mount. Once the bolt is off, the carrier will come free.
The tensioner pulley surface is smooth and is meant to run on the smooth side of the belt. The tensioner for the steering pump is ribbed and runs on the ribbed side of the belt.
If you are using the standard idler to run the supercharger and a water pump, as well as the aircon and alternator, it is probably being overloaded.
Of course, as yours is a non standard setup, I'm probably wrong.
