i am asking this question as i possibly have the opportunity to get a written off AWD. now being a written off car here in NSW i can not re-register that vehicle. so i was wondering is it possible to convert my tj magna to AWD? also would this work if it was a 5 spd tippy going into a car that has only a 4spd auto?

I assume you need Gearbox, front driveline, rear driveshaft & driveline, TCU, ECU.

also thinking possibly need BEM?
Mayb need to modify my exhaust?

I can only assume this is a fair pain in the ass of a job to do however if all the parts were to fall into my lap i just want to know exactly how i would do it.
Has anyone done this before???? i imagine Mal @ Mitsfix would probably be able to give the best answer.

You should probably do a search, as this is a commonly asked question.

The short answer is that the floor plan is different.

well providing the floor pan is still intact and good nick, get a panel shop or something, have the floor pan and firewall unpicked off the damaged car and then unpick yours, swap the floor pan and firewall over and then reassemble it? that could work...

:yeahthat: what damien said, not worth the hassel or the cost changing floor pans .better off selling your car and buying an awd if thats what you really want.

cause everything else on the exterior of the body is the same, so if you swap all floorpan, parts etc etc and fire wall over, your likely to have an awd magna :), I had this sort of idea aswell if I was to buy a wagon.....

Unlike the roof - which is designed to be removed / replaced without too much difficulty - I doubt the floorpan was designed to be cut and shut by a regular panel beater.

I imagine you would need to go to someone who specialises in these kind of modifications - possibly a hot rod /custom builder? Then you'd need to get the whole thing engineered.

My mental imagine goes like this:

1) One stat write off AWD Magna and one road registered Magna sitting next to each other.
2) Operation Floor Pan swap commences.
3) ...
4) Two stat write off Magna's sitting next to each other.

Pay particular attention to the absence of the "Profit" step.
