I'm wondering if anyone has tackled this problem before, nothing has come up in searches that has been particularly helpful.

I am considering replacing the roof and quarter panels in one go on a 1999 TH magna as the roof has a fair bit of panel damage. I noticed a few welds on the pillar at the front when I was replacing the front fender.

Cheers,

Sure, can be done. Front and rear glass need to come out, donor car needs to be found, cut both and install. Needs careful planning, lining up and welding, then smoothing, filling and repainting before glass goes back in. Not a backyard job, really. More a job for an experienced crash repairer who knows the best place to cut and how to line things up properly. Usually a job done on a valuable/exotic car, not a 13 year old Magna, as it turns out expensive to have done.

Might be easier to remove headliner, bash dents out, fill and paint on your current roof.

Cheers madmax, was hoping it was like the other panels where the quarters and the roof would come off as one pretty straight forward but looks like I'd be better off just repairing the existing roof.

You can buy roofskins straight from mitsubishi for around the $400 mark. Better off with new as it saves money with having to undo the welds on a wreck.

Madmax is right on the money - definitely get a pro to do it as it's not something anyone and everyone should do. It requires serious skill. Glass screens, interior trim, back plastic pillar covers and door surrounds will need to be removed to get access.

If you search around it may not be as expensive as you think. You could probably get it done for around $500 cash. Doesn't hurt to ask around and go off the books. Things are usually much cheaper that way. I used to have a contact but I think he's given up on panel beating on the side due to family commitments.

I'm not a fan of 'bashing' dents or bogging them up. Rather, get in contact with a good PDR. They have a few tricks and skills with removing dints without the need to replace panels and/or smash them. It'll all depend on whether the panel is stretched or not. Call a few and find out. Thanks to the melb hail storms a few years back - they're now easy to find and they're very experienced!

That's the storm that did all the damage, while most of the dents have popped back out over the years, a few of the larger ones remain.

Does anyone know any good hail repairers in melbourne?
