Top of the arvo to all,

Just seeking advice for those who have installed CB Radios in their rides, on the best location to mount one, as well what type to suit.

Its for my TJ sedan, so a 6ft BnS-style fibreglass aerial probably isn't necessary lol. I have a fishing kayak, which I mount on my roof racks for transportation so the ability to mount one of the roof or rear window is out of the question. I'd like it to be on the left side of the car (so I don't damage the aerial when I lift my kayak onto the roof). I'd like it to mount it on the lip of the boot next to the radio aerial, but unsure of interference with the radio itself.

I've visited several radio-comms related forum and they all say that above the roofline for optimum results, but having at least two-thirds of the aerial above the roofline for an ideal range and clarity.

Any assistance with this would be apprieciated!

Depending on what area your mostly using it and what for? Long distances or short distanced open areas or dense city sort of areas will determine what size (3db or 6.5 or 9db) aerial. Like any aerial higher is always better but on the boot should be fine, if your handy with metal can bend up a Z type bracket to mount onto an existing bolt on the boot line (if there is one?) If its just to talk to a mate behind ya on the boot will be fine. Remember when installing the coax dont do tight bends/crimp it in tight areas. Doesnt take much to stuff them up and you will struggle to understand or send clear sounds. Also if the cable supplied comes pre-terminated, use them dont try and shorten it!

***just to edit the first paragraph in my OP - I have the radio itself sorted, just enquiring about aerial-related mounting....

I'm in the Hunter Valley, and work in Newcastle so its mostly open-ish country and some suburban use. I've been carrying a small portable in the car for a little while now (I use them when I go fishing with mates and we are hitting two different locations ect).

Nah I'm not handy with metal and don't have the resources to make my own, so aftermarket purchase that will be. The boot was ideal, and on the same side as the radio aerial, but unsure of interference. Will there be (dramatic) interferance being mounted near the radio aerial?
