All FWD 4sp 3rd gen V6 magna gearboxes will bolt up with no problems, since the bell housings are all the same. The only one I think you may have issues with is TE gearboxes due to having a different TCU setup. Some of the gearboxes differ in ratios for the 3L and 3.5L versions and others have external filters while most don't. You might find some variations in connectors/harnesses for the switches.

Best thing would be to just use a 4sp 3.5L TJ gearbox. Surely with the amount of them being wrecked, you can find something in WA? Might be worth getting your current (I assume, broken?) one rebuilt properly using a non-failing wave spring, reco pump and new seals and bearings all round. That'll make sure it lasts beyond the life of the car.

i ask for a transmission specialist to rebuild it and it cost $2500-$3000 i can get a gearbox secondhand for $350 with 10,000kms warranty ..its done 210,000k's.. i think its outta TK will that work? i found one thats only done 36,000kms outta 2003 magna will that fit TJ

There where never any TK model magna's...Can you confirm what year magna? That will give some indication of the potential model.

Basically for the 3rd gens the order for the models is TE, TF, TH, TJ, TL and TW. The TL/TW model magna's were the bug-eye looking versions and their gearboxes don't have speed sensors in them so you will have problems with your speed sensor as well as I beleive a few plugs/harnesses on the box being different. TE' gearboxes are also a bit different so as far as I know, they will also not work properly with a TJ without some serious electrical modification. Like I said, a straight TJ 4sp swap would make your life easy. Otherwise I beleive a TH gearbox should also have no problems.

All boxes from any V6 3rd gen magna will bolt up but like I said it's to do with the other parts - e.g. electrical and other components. Also 3L vs. 3.5l model gearboxes also have slightly different gear ratios to better make use of the power.

If all else fails, TJ boxes are a dime a dozen down here in Vic. Mitsfix wrecks a lot of 3rd gen magna's and has plenty of spares of 4sp boxes. Might be worth giving him a call and looking into getting one sent over using a cheap courer service. ALternatively pick up the phone and call a good few wreckers in the area and go for a bit of a drive. Speak to the WA///AMC crew and they might have a few contacts for you if you ask nicely and maybe offer up a slab or two for some assistance ;)

You can fit any TF to TJ box in no issues

Rebulding an auto is a specialist task, I can do them but choose not to and get a specialist here in Bayswater to do all of mine

id go for a bit of a drive to get another one if i had a car. i found that one for $350 but ive decided to scrap it and buy a commodore... seems a waste of a car since nothing else is wrong with it, i only paid $1500 for it i got 30,000kms outta it

Well that is a shame. Magna's are genuinely good car and at this end of the price spectrum I'd definitely take it over a equivalent commodore because it'd be unlucky to have been abused.

You probably could've got a new gearbox for a few $100's and you'd be right to go.

If you were in Vic, I'd have bought your magna, fitted a new gearbox and on sold it for profit. What a waste.

Anyway hope the commodore doesn't leave you on the side of the road like I see so many doing.
