Hi guys, hope you can help me with some header install questions. I have an '01 TJ Sports and have purchased Lukey Headers (they're stamped '690'), which I planned to have a go at installing myself. Until I realised that the headers have no provision for the EGR pipe! WTF! What are my options? I'm guessing if it's blocked I'll get error codes? Can I install a breather on the intake manifold plenum instead? (Or will that cause her to run lean..?)
Or, should I just bite the bullet and pay an exhaust mob to install the headers for me - and presumably weld/drill an EGR mount while they're at it ?

Appreciate any advice thanks.

Legally....get the fitting welded on

Not so legally, disc the vac line to the egr valve and plug it OR get a blanking plate from a te or tf and place between the egr valve and inlet. This way it all looks to be working but does not. In both situations pipe to ex manifold gets left off car

Thanks for the advice. So is there an advantage/disadvantage performance-wise to having no EGR?
Hypothetically - if I was going to plug it, what would I use?

Also a couple of general questions please, can I basically fit the headers from underneath the car? i.e. it looks to me like all I'd have to remove from above is the heat protector plate(s) - am I right? The service manual implies I've got to remove the radiator and alternator which I find hard to believe!
And do I need a special tool (oxygen sensor wrench) to remove/re-fit that?

Thanks again.

Headers installed. Bit of a nightmare, not sure I'd do it myself again. The last nut took me 2.5 hours to get off, @#$%ing thing. The Y-pipe is about 1 cm too long, so it can be forced into place but then I had trouble getting things to line up right in order to screw the bolts into the cat join.. ended up stuffing the thread on both bolts so at the moment it's not quite finished. I started the car.. oh mercy. I hope some (not all!) of the noise goes away once it's hooked up completely and actually flowing through the cat and mufflers - otherwise the wife is gonna kill me!

Just to wrap up - I got the headers installed successfully in the end. Car sounds great, nice burble and exhaust growl and has slightly better pick-up in middle rev range. Haven't had it dyno'd or anything but I have been driving it almost daily since I bought it 11 years ago and I can feel the difference.
However, I suspect I have a leak somewhere; at over 2/3 throttle I hear a hissing sound.. and can't seem to place where it's coming from. Sounds like induction noise but I only have a panel K&N filter and prior to installing the headers I didn't notice it, so that's pretty telling I guess.
Is it possible that I am getting more induction noise now that I have extractors (and have capped EGR)? ... Or am I kidding myself - and should start looking for an exhaust leak more thoroughly..

You are probably listening for noise. A hissing is usually pretty telling of a k&n filter.
