View Full Version : TPS faulty?

My car has displayed a few weird syptoms such as holding gears a bit too long so I decided to check the TPS.

Problem 1) I cannot get any sort of circuit to show between pins 1 and 2. My understanding is they should create a circuit when there is no throttle, telling the ECU that the throttle is closed. I can't even get them to create a circuit when the TPS has been removed from the car.

Problem 2) Pins 3 and 4. They show a circuit of around 30 to 40 ohms with the TPS removed from the car (at what I assume is throttle closed position). If I move the TPS mechanism then the resistance (or is it impedance?) increases then disappears as if the circuit is broken.

Problem 3) What is the "Free leaver"? My accelerator cable is hooked up to a leaver which basically just stops on the idle adjustment screw. I'm supposed to create a 1.4mm gap between the throttle leaver and the free leaver but I don't know wtf the manual is talking about :(

My car might be different so I'll take some pics of the throttle leaver and the TPS. The number on the TPS is 025202

Ok this is embarassing, I think I got the pins around the wrong way eg 1 & 2 do show a circuit when closed, but is 30 ohms ok?

3 & 4 never show a circuit, are they even supposed too?

Question about the free leaver is still valid!
