hey guys.
i was out at the wreckers the other day grabbing some stuff off a few magnas that i needed (fuel sender off a tl, door handle surrounds which i accidentally broke on my car) and anyway i stumbled across a TH magna with a display unit (model MR906) in it... anyway i decided what the heck i will pull it out as i wouldn't mind having the trip computer in the center part of the dash. anyway my car is a TJ s1.5 with speed alarm and trip computer built into the cluster... how would i go about wiring the display unit as the plug on the unit is a 20pin plug and my center display with the lights only has a basic flat plug for the lights... should i go back and pull the loom out? or i noticed a lot of the tl/tw's still had their clocks in them but they don't have a trip computer so could i go pull one of them out and wire it up... the unit cost me bugger all so im not too annoyed if it wont work in my car... also does anyone have a pinout of the plug on the unit? im swaying more towards getting just a clock from a TL as they are apparently easy to wire up and im handy with electroncs

cheers for any help guys.

On another note i decided to find the newest model wreck for the fuel sender unit as i thought it would have a better chance of lasting and i can say i now have a working fuel gauge :P

Hi,

not sure if this helps but im about to put a KH blackout cluster and centre computer in my TE magna. for this I needed the computer, cluster and loom. So for the centre TH computer to work in your TJ you might need the TH cluster as well as i belive the harnesses are linked.

wiring diagram should be avialable in the workshop manual which you can download by searching for on this forum.

Seeing as yours is the later tj, i am not sure if you can wire it in leaving your loom and cluster standard.

Possible way, fit a kj s1 cluster with full loom and plug and play with some minor wiring changes. Basically series one tj/kj had the trip comp in centre display where as all other models s2 -tl/tw had them built into the cluster.

I am in the process of doing this with my tj series 2. It is definitely not a plug and play situation. The power, lights and buttons are easy, and I have found the correct speed control wire from the cluster so all my speed alert, mileage and average speed works but I am yet to find the correct wires for the fuel gauge and no 2 injector to get the fuel consumption parts working yet.

Ideally I'm trying to duplicate the trip computer not replace it and the wiring for it isn't just in one plug its all over the place

you wouldd't happen to have a pinout of the display unit plug would you?

I got the wiring diagrams off of the manual (there is a link off the forums), but the cluster only shows 10 - 15 wires on the diagram when there is actually triple that. The speed wire is white with a blue stripe from the far left plug, but the other wires listed have multiple options which I am yet to figure out. The wires off the trip computer are fairly straight forward.

Hey Jedixo, which wreckers were you at that had TL/TWs?

Murph, I'd like to duplicate as well if possible (and practical), was wondering if you can display different information on the two displays? eg. instant fuel on console, odo on cluster.

Yes you can but it requires a second switch unit. I have one mounted in he center console. As I said I haven't figured the fuel bit out yet, but I have the distance traveled in the center and fuel use in the cluster. I also have 2 speed alerts set at 65 and 85

hey guys. i was at the bakers creek wreckers outside of mackay.

i think i will pass with re-wiring everything and go grab out a TL clock tomorrow and see if i can find the post i was looking at the other day on how it is wired

i noticed a lot of the tl/tw's still had their clocks in them but they don't have a trip computer

They have a trip computer in the cluster display.

I have both a TJ with mechanical odometer and trip meter and computer in the centre display, and a TL with digital cluster and the computer display also in the cluster. The TL one is much better as it has an extra digit to display info on.

finished. i went to the wreckers today and pulled out a TL display with a fair bit of the harness and have spent the afternoon wiring it up. it wasn't real trisky mainly trying to figure out the pinout was the trickiest. it looks sweet now. i still have the other display and my original 'clock free' display aswell. dont know what i will do with them :P... oh and i got the warning light picture screen out of a tf model i think as the warning lights changed on the tl.
