Got a V6 Manual 1996 Magna here that a guy drove to our house, when he went to leave it wouldn't start. We put a new fuel pump in it when you turn the key on and crank it the pump is not working. Has power running to pump and has spark i powered the pump straight to the battery and it works i checked power to the injectors when it cranks the test light stays on should the test light go on and off ? as the injectors pulse ? Could it be the computer ? Cause when you turn reds on fuel pump does nothing.. But has power running to it. All fuses are good.

Thanks for any help.

Have you checked the big yellow fuse in the engine bay..?

Have you tried clutch starting the car..?

Immob issue, only use correct test gear for starters and negative wire pulses not positive

Thanks for the help guys. We think it is going to be an immobiliser issue. But how can we know for sure if it is that or not?

Could also be the crank position sensor as it might not send fuel until it knows the engine is turning.

This raises a question... I dread the day that I am in this situation. If the car does not start, can you still get codes from teh Check Engine Light to tell you what is wrong, or do you have to have it running to be able to egt this information?

You should be able to check what codes it has just with the ignition switched on and the engine not running.

Will there be a code for the immobiliser if that is the problem? If not then how will I know if it is that or not?

Well when mine went, i checked 2 things. The terminals on the battery were tight (happened once before, radio would work but as soon as i went to crank everything turned off and reset) and the immobiliser. There is some trick, i'd contact MadMagna, with making the fuel pump stay on all the time and try cranking. If that doesn't work, then you'd be looking at immobiliser. I don't know too much about crank angle sensor so i couldn't help you on that.

The immobiliser is located behind the left foot kick panel near your ECU, look like relays if i remember correctly. Also in your ignition barrel the o-ring.

Where in VIC are you located mate?

I would like to know this trick in case my vehicles fail to start somewhere. What is the trick?
