Two CH Lancers in the family, both 2004. The black one (son's) has done 138,000 km on the original cam belt, the white one (wife's) only 28,000.
Had one of my "hero" moments today, currently basking in the (imaginary) glory of a job well done. Changed the original cam belt on the white one. After 8 years and 9 months it was a bit overdue. Much easier than the V6, only one cam to line up, and tension is provided by a big spring. Same setup as the 12 valve 3.0L second gen engine. Cost me all of $40.
Anyhow, been telling my son to change his as soon as possible, but he's not bothering.
Anyone gone way over the cam belt interval on a 2.0L Lancer without problems? And more importantly, should I help him rebuild the cylinder head when the belt breaks? (I'm inclined to say no at this point)
