I'm looking at getting a new car, I'm sick of my TR dying at intersections.
One car came up, it's about $1k out of my price range, but it looks so nice I just can't help it. Trying to work out if I should make an offer or not, what would you expect to pay for this?
1999 KH Verada, sunroof, leather interior, electric everything, cruise control, in-dash dvd player. Looks to be nothing wrong with it, the paint looks really nice.

Km, service records? Condition is everything in a 13 year old car.
"Looks nice" - that's what you said about the TR too! (probably)
If it is outside your price range, don't buy it, stick with the TR and save up a bit (or a lot) more. If buying it stretches your financial resources, what will you do when it needs servicing, tyres, battery etc?
Probably cheaper at the moment for you to fix the TR.

I would pay 4k granted it has sub-200km and there is no major damage, there is a maintained log book and there are no major mechanical issues to attend to. That is just me though. Hard to judge without seeing the car, or at least photos/advertisement for it.

If it hasn't had the belt done that's going to cost a bit.
If it hasn't got service books it wants to be cheap as chips.

I suppose you're right, it's not like I would be spending money I don't have though. I can afford it and still have a few thousand left over if I need servicing or anything. However I am planning on moving some time next year and would prefer to have as much money as I can. It's just trying to decide whether getting a more reliable car would be worth it in the long run, versus the cost of maintaining one in poorer condition.

Recently found out that it has done ~240,000, service books up to ~140,000, he's pretty sure the timing belt was done ~100,000, I guess he didn't check the book. The car is $3k o.n.o.

Sounds like a decent price, i have a 2000 KH Verada XI and its done 240,000ks, and its worth about $3000, I bought it last year for $5000 with 203,000 k's
Do a revs check aswell - it can't hurt to be a little cautious!

If that was the case I'd be making sure all the fluids were OK, and I'd be driving it straight to the mechanic for a major service - I wouldn't even drive it home...

"Pretty sure the belt was done at 100,000 km". You would hope so! Way overdue for the next change, I'd get it towed to a mechanic.
Factor in $1K for updating the mechanicals, knock the price down by that much and don't plan to drive it straight away.
I've bought Magnas in this km and price bracket, first thing I do is park them under the carport for a week or two and give them a thorough going over. Brakes, suspension, drive shafts, gearbox, ancillary belts, idlers, cam belt. All would need checking over if the service records faded away 100,000 km ago.
