I'm saving up for a new car (either a VR/VS or TE/TF), gonna go to auction towards the end of next year and was wondering how bad TE's really are, i know a lot of people say they have gearbox problems and engine problems and all these other probs, but is it possible to sorta convert a TE to a TF for under $2k, cuz i can pick up a TE for $5k or a TF for $8k, and was wondering if it'd be cheaper to go the TF or just get a TE and replace the dodgey stuff in it for TF stuff.

you should be able to get TH for $8k at the Auctions, just don't rush, be patient and you'll get a good deal.
good luck.

I have a TE from april (i think) in 96 ahd she is a beautiful car, my mum had her before i did and had no preblems except a radiator that blew about 7-8 months ago and i sorta fried a clutch. The car themselves are really good from my experience and i wouldn't hesitate in reccomending one.
any way ... good luck with you car hunting.

Yeah got a KE new and the only prob has been the gearbox replaced under warranty but other than that, the car is bullet proof. (except for the 4 new radios mitsub had to put n it because they kept eating cd's.)

My TE has run fine since I got it last September.. although it needs a service pretty badly.. hasn't had one in 30,000 odd :/ I had it booked in for Monday but someone decided to run a stop sign on Thursday and I had nowhere to go... getting quotes at the moment.

I've got 2 te's, one april 4cyl auto and one december v6 manual advance, both are brilliant cars and bullet proof, both well into the 200,000ks mark as well.

Yeah I say go a TE manual over the VR/VS. I had a drive of my brothers VS a little while back, only 96 000 kms but it drove like it had alot more, so many dam rattles and vibrations, they dont seem to age too well. I bought a 98 TF auto V6, and I really wish I had have waited for a manual one, the auto is a bit sluggish and quite anoying at times, and well known for its problems.
And there werent any huge differences in the TE's and TF's were there? Besides stronger 'B' pillars or something and I think a few other small things  . SO basically find a V6 manual TE and you'll be laughin, good cars for a good price.

I wouldn't worry about them now...they should have all been fixed under warranty by now :D
