Hi Everyone,

I'm looking for some muffler advice. The over axle piping and the welds onto the (original factory) muffler on my VR-X are absolutely shot.

I've been quoted $600 by my local exhaust place to supply and fit a supply and Redback STR364, and weld the original tip back on.

I went to my local Burson's today and was quoted around $330 for the same Redback STR364.

Ya get what you pay for - and I know my local exhaust shop has a reputation for quality work - but for a saving of almost $300 I'm thinking of doing it myself.

Questions:

Has anyone fitted a Redback STR634 themself? Is it a straight bolt on?
How easy is it to fit an aftermarket 'push on' type tip to this muffler?

Thanks,
Dave

PS I did ask about the Lukey AL4-5597, but told there wont be stock available until December, by which time my current exhaust will have disintegrated...

If you want to wait for the Lukey, you could trawl the wreckers for a good replacement in the meantime. You might strike it lucky and find something good. Worth a hunt anyway.

The ENTIRE redback exhaust should be under 600 installed.

WTF is this price. I got the exact same muffler supplied, installed with a brand new tip of my choice and a free can of red bull for $350 last weekend.

Is your VR-X muffler no good? I had the resonator replaced with a hotdog and all the piping to the rear muffler replaced for $250. The exhaust shop said the stock vrx muffler was stainless and would outlive the new mild steel pipe.

An added bonus is that it sounds well tuned. Not loud and droney.

The steel commonly used on mufflers has a lifespan of 25 years. It will certainly outlive the car itself.

I got the Lukey muffler installed on my car, with custom twin tips for $300. It was a fantastic job done by my local exhaust shop with a fantastic reputation.

Got a VRX muffler from a TJ-11 literally no more than a year old for $110 from mitsiwreck on Grand Junction road last Saturday. Dont think they had another one though...
Took literally 30 mins to fit, including modifying back bar cos mine was an exec.

Id try to find a decent one at wrecker and it will last years. Check Eddy wreckers and Mitsibits and save ya $$
