Hi all,
What's the best way to remove the wing mirror cap from the rest of the assembly without breaking it? I am referring to the part that's color-coded to the rest of the car.
I figure there are clips around it at some points but am paranoid about breaking something whilst trying to remove it.
Cheers.

To be honest I do not think it is possible to get it off without damaging something, it has a number of tabs plus the entire rim also locks into grove, also due to its shape it must come on and off on a particular angle.
I have an old mirror here with the cover off, I could post pictures if this helps.

I removed one off a broken mirror just to have a look but it caused a fair bit of damage. It could be possible I guess if you take care, just like pulling an iPad apart!

Yeah a picture of one disassembled would definitely help. Thanks.
If I can't get the cover off then I may be able to go in from the mirror side. How easy is the mirror glass itself to remove?

I've done it, just slide your fingernail right around.

And two pics to show the back of the mirror with the cap off. To answer Minotaur's question I do not think the glass can be removed for access.

Thanks for that. Gives me an idea of how to tackle it.
Looks like the only actual clips are along the lower edge, I think that if they can be sprung, the cover should just pull straight off.

So yeah, I tried springing those clips with zero success. Extremely tight fit along the bottom edge, couldn't get any thing in far enough to even come close to hitting the clips.
It'll probably come off by prying apart at the top and rotating the whole cap towards the front of the car, but this might break the lug in the top half of the cap. Could probably be glued back on though if it broke.
Might stop in at Elizabeth Mitsubishi next week to see if they have any suggestions.
Another thing I am curious about is the positioning of the connector coming out of the mirror. I couldn't see it when I took the rubber off the inside of the mirror mount (where the nuts are) - is the connector at the top, or the bottom, near where the wiring exits the door and enters the car?

Hi Minotaur, not sure that I understand the question re cable path, however to unplug the cable you must remove the door skin to disconnect it, it’s not a 2 second job. In my case when I busted the outer edge of my mirror it was easier to simply purchase a new mirror, a new cap, and have a paintless dent removal guy paint the mirror cap for me.
Whilst paint was being mixed I also had a spare cap painted for my left hand side mirror.

So I managed to remove my drivers wing mirror cap without incident - I went down to Elizabeth Mitsubishi and they happened to have a wing mirror waiting for customer collection without a cap on it, so I was able to see exactly how the retaining clips operated.
I basically went in with a heap of small screwdrivers around the edge of the mirror, levering the plastic away from the lugs on the mirror cap until I was able to pull it loose.
When I instal the actual indicators though I will remove the door trim too (not sure how easy THIS will be) and use the existing wiring sheath to help me run the extra wiring through.
