I have checked the local wreckers. There are no etacs on ebay. It seems like a very difficult part to replace.

Does anyone have an elite they are wrecking? I just dont know how to get hold of one of these.

I also heard that the kr xi ETACS is maybe compatible with my car but require a photo of the sockets.

I have paypal, and will pay $50 (negotiable if it is not enough) for a working ETACS with the correct sockets (one small, one large).

It is a computer-type device. It stands for Electronic Time Alarm Control System. Present in luxury model cars, it controls the anti-theft alarm along with various other features.

In my car, i found out the hard way that if the ETACS is kaput, the following features will not be availiable at all:
* Dome light
* Footwell lights
* Air (hot, cold, outside, inside. anything related to air.)
* Power windows (lucky all my windows are up)
* Central locking
* Radio
* Brake lights (this might not be because of ETACS)
* I might have missed some features but one things for sure, if you have ETACS and it dies, you will hate your car

These are the two plugs

If your car is an exec TR then no. Only the TR Elite, KR xi and possible ei, KS xi and ei etc.
van0014, Mal did not have any?

no, he said he didnt deal with second gens.

My car is really frustrating me now!!!

My alternator belt also snapped. In addition to no comfort features, i dont get power steering. Thats probably what happens if you make a worn out belt way too tight. I made sure i could turn the alternator with no belt slip, so i would also be turning the engine over.

It really sucks. Without power steering, i cant drive like a maniac anymore, as much as my car angers me. That coupled with no brake lights is making me really worry about the local 5-0 who already dont like me because of my mates.

Sorry, i know i talk too much. Probably making up for hardly ever talking in person. i dont know.

Have you tried one of those online find-a-part sites which sends the request to various wreckers which have signed up? E.g. Autoparts (http://www.autoparts.com.au/).

Thanks for sticking with this. I just tried that site and await an email.

I might be able to get in touch with someone locally who has one. The problem is, the guy paid way too much for his car. Even if he is wrecking it, he may want a lot for the part.

but the question,
pay a bit more now for the part, or wait months for another one to come up
Is the lack of comfort and possible fuucking by the 5-0 really worth saving a few bucks?

Problem solved. I had overlooked 2 fuses. My 100A alternator fuse protected my alternator from reverse battery voltage. It now works fine.

There was a small 10A fuse in the interior which somehow controls all of the other things that failed on the car. It was labeled "DEF, HTR & P/W RELAY". I never knew that would disable the ETACS to such a degree, but it did. As well as the air system and brake lights which doesn't seem to rely on ETACS.

My two power amplifiers also blew their fuses and both work fine. It turns out these cars have decent protection against reverse battery power. I do not recommend testing it though.

Thankyou for the advice. My car has been mistreated enough that i always fear the worst when things go wrong.
