View Full Version : 380, how much is too much?

Hey guys.
Looking at a 380, just not sure on what I should be expecting price wise?
It's the metallic red.
It's a VR-X 2005 model.
Has a bit of damage to the front bumper (just respray?)
The VR-X wing (the small lip one) has a similar texture to the body. Were these painted differently or where they the exact same as the body?
It has reversing sensors.
It has 144,000KMs.
It has a reversing camera, but I'm not sure what it's hooked up to?
The three rear windows (back, both side ones) the tint is coming off (bubbling)
They're asking $13,990 for it. Now is this too much for a 380 of this spec, year and condition?
Oh, and what differences am I looking at between a 380 Series 1 and Series 3? Or are the cars the same.

$13990 sounds extremely overpriced for the condition etc you describe. In the VRX the series 2 is the pick with the leather seats (late 2006 on)

For $14k for a VR-X, you'd want it to have low kms, be in good nick, and possibly have leather. If the kms are on the high side and/or the condition isn't great, I'd put it closer to $10-11k.
VR-X series 3 had a better front end, but had the ugly oversized spoiler and base model tail lights. I believe that leather was deleted as an option to. If you're going a VR-X, I'd go a Series 1 or 2.

I'd also agree saying that it is overpriced. Series I & II are very similar in what you get, but Series II does snag you a few more goodies - just can't remember what they are off the top of my head!
Series III does have slightly nicer front & rear bars but the rear is ruined by the standard headlights and an ugly spoiler - so I'd just go for a Series I/II as the rear end is seeeeeeexy :D
Keep looking around for one in good condition to pop up. In my opinion it's much better to pay an extra few thousand on a car and get one that's in great nick than save a few bucks and have to worry/deal with getting things fixed up. It kinda ruins the whole 'omg shiny new car i love it' experience!

be prepared to travel, unreg vehicle permit home from another state and you should be able to be more picky

Definitely overpriced, I paid less than that drive away for my 2007 series 2 VR-X with full options (leather/bluetooth etc.) and was in good condition too.

For a 7 year old car, with 144,000 km on it it is too expensive.
Check out the prices on the base models, some go below $10K.
Decide for yourself if the extras are worth it.
Also have a look at TW/TL Magnas, only a little older and available in wagon if that is what you need.
Paid $6.5K for a 04/2004 TL wagon with 136,100 Km on it, I wouldn't think a 380 a year younger with more Km would be worth more than twice as much.
In the end it's your choice, but shop around for a better deal.

Sorry mate you can not compare a Magna to a 380, age is absolutely nothing to do with it, the 380 is a far more refined car, designed many years later, has won so many awards you would almost need a separate forum to list them
Yes Magna's are an awesome car BUT the 380 is so much better on so many levels.
While this car as far as market price goes is over the price of many others, lets be realistic, for a car that gives sfa issue, is packed with features and comfort the price being asked is really half or a quater of what hte car is really worth. I konw that the market value has tumbled however I have also seen the price beginning to lift a little of late as well as people are starting to realise how good these cars actually are
As for looking at base models, really? The TCL alone as well as the extra other parts such as the integrated display are just a few reasons plus the better front end, nicer rear bar, 17" wheels just to name a few

For comparison - younger, cheaper, lower km.

Good stuff... not so sure about the second post where he says there's plenty of bolt-on mods for a 380 though.

Guys,
I just have to say this, having been on here since 2006 when there were about 3 owners amongst the multitude of Magna owners;
THANK YOU!
You just don't realise how much crap early 380 posters copped for having a car that was after the Magna but not considered "worthy".
I'm not bitter at all but thankful ppl now know and don't have to be convinced.
BTW I owned a KE Verada and thought that was the best car I'd ever owned (not the fastest, or the best looking... yada yada).

having owned fairmont ghia's for the last decade, i will say im very happy with my leather equipped VRX 380.
it drives very smooth and does the job well. However they arent perfect and theres alot of things i like more about the falcon, at the same time theres a few things i like about the 380 more as well
