My fuel gauge and Temprature gauge don't seem to be working. I checked the fuses and everyhting seems to be ok, I'm not sure about wireing and stuff but does anyone have any ideas on what i should look at?

It doesn't really bother me about the fuel as i can epproximate how much petrol i have left but the temp gauge i would at least like to be working.

Cheers

have u removed the dash at all lately? if the pins are slightly out of the back some of the dials don't work properly.

On the TM,N,P only the fuel and temp gauges are powered by a 7 Volt 3pin regulator chip, so when this blows you lose both gauges.
I don't know if it carried over to the TR,S. Any one with a manual care to comment?
It is fitted to the back of the instrument cluster cct board and is held in place by screws and a clamp (no soldering). Will be pretty obvious if on your board, small black chip (~10mm square) with 3 legs, however clamps may hide a bit of it.
Reason for use was to prevent fluctuating voltages so the gauges would be more accurate.

Good luck

ahhhhh good point, u didn't mention what model car you have...

i know the te onward have those pin connectors at the back that just slot in when the dash is put in (mine didn't work because one of the cables form the white dials was caught)

not sure about other models tho, PhilsTH seems to know what he's talking about tho

it is most likely the 7volt reg. if both gauges don't work it is probably no power. the gauges are 7v + in and earth via the variable resistance sender units.to test resister on back of dash leave the dash plugged in but out of the dash so u can get to it. use a volt meter with one side connected to a good earth read each of the three pins on the back of the regulator, should read 12v at one pin, 7volt (or reduced voltage but not less than 5v) at another and the third is earth.

To test the temp gauge sender just disconnect the wire from the sender and put it straight to earth (single wire on lhs of inlet manifold in 2.6 efi, sender faces up) if the curcuit is ok the gauge should go straight for hot when the ignition is switched on with the wire earthed, if the gauge works when u do this then the sender is stuffed,

Hey guys, ok, i pulled out the dash and its kind of a pin set up so i straightened all the pins abd right now it seems to be working, but i'll need to go for a longer drive just to make sure, thanks for all your help guys.
