They are one of the easiest trannys to service. If the oil isn't too dirty and doesn't need a flush, precede as so. Drain oil, change screw on filter on the top, if it has one. Fill with recommended oil, castrol tqm st or equivalent (3.5litres,for starters,I think?) check in neutral when hot.

Thanks for the replies

@Kingdavey everyone stresses how much you MUST only use genuine mitsu-trans flyid accordingly :)

What i am after/seen is a step by step procedure. Nonetheless, thank you for your help mate :)

Unless you are after a new trans please do not follow the above

First of all, a trans service drain and refill (which is a total waste of time anyway) is 5.5l

Secondly, use ony SP3 fluid, perferably use Genuine Mits, is well priced for starters and is 100% designed for these transmissions. Added to this I get 60l drums and have always used the genuine stuff and never had an issue. There was a time I used some of the aftermarket stuff however most of the makers started using blends which were then compatable with several grades of fluid so I stopped using them

We've used castrol oil in magna trans for nearly 20 years, serviced hundreds of them. We've only gone to genuine oil in the last year or two plainly for the fact it's cheaper. I've had no problems due to inferior oil. Castrol TQM ST is sp3 equivalent.

I don't think I've ever put 5.5 litres in a straight drain and refill.....ever.
Wreck your trans my arse.

I believe i am after the flush not the drain and refill DIY, unless this is undo-able by myself. I would take it to you mal but i am now working 6day weeks in geelong so its a bit of a hassle but next free day i get ill call you and book it in!

I did mine recently. Bought three bottles of sp3. The procedure is just like an oil change. Drop fluid into pan via the hex bolt on bottom of transmission. Put bolt back on. Change filter if you have one it is under the air cleaner intake on top of transmission. Refill with sp3 to about halfway between the full and empty marks so to not overfill it. Go for a good drive to let the new and old oil mix. Repeat 2 more times. I did mine over a week. 3 bottles of oil saw it clean and nice. Check the dipstick on the transmission when hot on final time.

What?........and you didn't blow it up?..... Madmagna reckons if you don't do it his way, you'll need a new trans. Your way isn't exactly how I do it, but I bet it's still going. Good on you. Just goes to show that there's more than one way to gain the same results.

Total post: 6 vs. 12,585 - not a fair comparison, so please stop picking on someone who has been a great asset for this forum.

He is a great asset, I agree totally. I've been reading his posts for years. I don't have a problem with that. But he said my advice was wrong and it wasn't. I've had 30 years in the auto industry and I believe I've had enough experience to pass on to other people. Like I said before, there is more than one way to achieve the same results.
