Hay everyone

I'm new to the Australian magna forums. I have just had an exhaust shop fit an 200cpi Metalic cat converter to my tj sports. Are Metalic cats Any good and will last? I know there's alot on the markets.

Thankyou

Metal cats are much better quality than ceramic.

Is ceramic a metalic type cat?

As far as I know all catalytic converters are made of a ceramic honeycomb plated with platinum catalyst. (could be wrong though, but. lol )

The core of most mass produced cars is going to be ceramic. Metal core cats are used in the aftermarket, where people want high performance under heavy loads, and to ensure that the cat works under high pressure ie from a high powered engine. It is often mandatory to have a metal cat with a supercharged or turbocharged engine.

Not going to argue with you, but what metal can withstand high temps better than ceramic substrates?

I run 100cel on both cars, nothing like flow :)

Ceramic can crack at extreme temperatures. The catalyst material varies but is often a precious metal.

Catalyst is a coating of alumina, platinum, palladium, rhodium. The substrate is the material underneath it, to give it that honeycomb structure. Are there any substrates other than ceramic, that would make it a "metallic" cat as opposed to a "ceramic" cat?

metal cats are made from an iron alloy, containing chromium and aluminum.
