Hi guys,

I noticed on 5 or 6 occasions now, when trying to take off from the lights with my VRX that the car is hesitant to take off. It seems to be NOTHING to do with the gears as the car is going along fine and even before the gear is due to change (auto), it gets a jerky acceleration, then suddenly all is fine and it wont happen for an X amount of time.

I was ignoring this problem until Dreggzy pointed out that the Throttle/Accelerator cable seemed to have a bend in it.

So I was cool with that - I thought "fine I will save up and get it fixed for X amount of cash."

However today it happened at the lights with another Mitsubishi next to me and it was VERY jerky I looked like a novice L driver and the driver next to me must have been laughing his ass off.

My question is, will this kink/bend cause this problem? Is there a way to definately test this? Are there any other issues that can cause this problem? The car drives beautifully, its just this very jerky/touchy/jumpy acceleration which occasionally happens that is becomming an embarassment to me!

Any advice would be awesome!

I wouldn't think so, the kink would be straightened out when you open the throttle a little, then the kink would return when theres no tension on the throttle cable. You could try tightening the cable.

I just found this old thread.

Could it be these things causing the issues?

It is intermittent and my car never stalls.

Well I am going to see if the things in the link above are causing the issue and update the thread accordingly.

I assume you have an auto with TCL, the issue is then a sticking throttle plate as the plate is not directly connected to the cable shaft. Take off your air pipe, give the plate and passage a good clean and should fix

Yes it is a 5 speed auto with TCL.

Okay thanks Madmagna, I will try this in the coming days and see how I go! Will keep this updated.
