Has anyone here removed and cleaned the scuttle drain tubes in a magna?
When I got my car I removed the front mudflaps and the plastic cladding behind it and removed 12 years worth of muck and this greatly improved the water drainage from the windscreen.I did not however remove the windscreen wiper arms and the scuttle.Has anyone done this?

Yes. It is easy to do. I did it recently to a 2003 TJ Magna I bought as I could see leaves in there.
Raise bonnet. Remove wiper arms. Then unscrew the 2 plastic scuttle covers. There were lots of leaves and a fair amount of gunk. I soaked it for a while with a strong mix of car wash liquid, then water blasted the entire area and both drains. Let it dry out. I then sprayed some Inox on the wiper motor cases and the linkages for a spot of preventative maintenance.
It may be handy to have a few extra plastic retaining screws as the top threads easily. I just have them spare anyway from previous visits to Wreckers as they are handy when removing the grille and under engine bay splashguards if you do strip any.

While you're at it, have you considered replacing the scuttle guard?

The rubber lip on the edge seems to perish on most Magnas. I think they're around $50 new from Mitsubishi.

to prevent leaves from getting into the scuttle again would it be a good idea to fit a mesh under the scuttle guard?

$18.50 per side without scrivets. They are easy to remove but the scrivets strip very easily. Be sure to have some spares. I attacked mine with a gerni and a lot of crap came out.
