Mal,
I will be replacing cam belt in next 2 weeks (now at 220 000km) and need your input regarding other things to replace. Cam belt and 3 oils seals were replaced at 100 000km. Crankshaft oil seal failed at 120 000 km so all seals replaced with Mitsubishi genuine seals and new cam belt also fitted.

I will fit a new water pump (done 220 000km), but not sure about tensioner, tensioner pulley and idler pulley (all done 100 000km).

Should replace the 3 oil seals (genuine Mitsubishi, done 1000 000km) ? How is it that the rear seals seem to last so much longer? Which is better black or brown oil seals?

Will do all the work myself, have done a number of cam belt etc changes.
Look forward to your reply.
Cheers, john

Do you know why the oil seal failed after only 20.000km ?

Probably installation error - not seated correctly, or seated with too much force and damaged, or lip turned over.

OP: There is only one seal at the other end of the crankshaft and if you saw the size of it, you would understand why it rarely gives trouble. As to which bits you replace, it depends on what you find in there. Idlers definitely. Hydraulic tensioner if it doesn't pass the tests in the manual.
