hey all

wanted to ask a question-searching this i couldnt find anything

i have a TF with A NON-AIRBAG HORN PAD
as the wheel has gone "twisty" up the top was looking into getting a ralliart wheel for it

basically will the wheel fit with the existing hornpad and will my cruise control switch bolt directly onto the wheel?

also is it possible to get the existing wheel repaired out of curiosity?

Yes horn pad will fit
Yes cruise control will work

Not sure about repair, standard wheels are worth SFA!

As for horn pad's, you could fit an Air Bag horn pad and just not wire the airbag. Air Bag horn pads are much nicer looking that the flat standard pads.

However, don't you have airbags being an Altera?

Rush I'm quite certain that it is illegal to have a safety feature in the car (e.g. like airbags) but not have it hooked up and working. This is often a problem for those wanting to fit TL/TW seats in their earlier 3rd gens due to the TL/TW seats having side airbags.

And john, yes it is possible to fit a hornpad into a steering wheel that once had a airbag or vica versa.

You just need to completely remove all the internals of both steering wheels and transfer your horn pad, cruise control switch and weights over. I know because I've fitted a leather wheel from a non-airbag TH to my TJS2 which came factory with an airbag.

Unless you've got a leather or sports ralliart wheel or something special, don't worry about repairing the cheap plastic crap wheels that came with the bottom range Magna's. Just replace it. Head to your local wreckers and might just stumble across a nice leather wheel or something nicer. All sports models from TF-TJ's got leather wheels, and KH verada's and higher got them too. Leather can be repaired or for the odd $40 you can buy a restitching kit or a redyeing kit and fix leather that's slightly worn.

Since you do not have an airbag you could also fit an aftermarket wheel. Try and avoid the cheap $10 ebay crap and get the better wheels if possible. Your local autostore should have a selection of them. Buy one which you like and thinks suits your car.
All aftermarket wheels hook to a universal adaptor known as a "boss" kit. You need to buy this for the magna and then you can fit any non-airbag steering wheel. You will also need to wire the horn in as well.

i know about the boss kit, but i dont like the look of it in the magna(doesent really suit it)
i may be getting a ralliart wheel so wanted to know if it could be done

The 'twisty' padding at the top used to be repaired with glue by injecting it with a hypodermic needle into the padding.
