Well driving home from work today all my dash warning light came on when accelerating, radio would turn off but when I hit the brake things would go back to normal, then happen again when accelerating again.

Could this be a minor issue with a wire or fuse or something I could look at or would I really need to go straight to an auto eleco?

might be a bad earth on the dash ?

Sounds like a loose wire. should be a simple fix, its just a matter of tracking down said loose wire.

Ok I've been monitoring the issue for a couple of days and what seems to happen is when it gets up to operating temperature, and it is normal for 5 or so minutes of driving, then when accelerating the temprature gauge goes up, but when i lift my foot off the accelerator the temprature goes down and as the car slows it goes back to normal. Once the temp gauge goes past 3/4 the traction control, hand brake and a 3rd warning light comes on the dash. So now i'm not convinced its an electrical problem but another issue. Any ideas of what I should check? Oil and coolant remain full and the car doesn't smell hot when i pull up. So not sure...

Put a volt meter on the battery. Sounds like the alternator regulator is putting out too high voltage.
Warm the car up, get the symptoms to show, give it a rev. Voltage should not go over 14.4 volts

If that is the problem:
Take in to a sparky to get checked, might just need a new regulator.
A second hand one from wreckers is a possibility too.

Voltage reg is a common issue and a cheap fix.

Just an update, I just had to call the NRMA to come and start my car as it didn't start. Looks like my alternator is not sending charge to the battery at all. The NRMA helped me get my car to the closest Auto Electrician. So it looks like i'm up for a new alternator... just waiting for them to call me once they have a good look.

Might have taken the battery to hell with it if it is overcharging too much.

Yeah, hope not, Battery is only 3 months old so hope it didn't kill it. Just waiting to hear from the auto electrician if he can get me back on the road today or not..... here's hoping......
