Well I finally took the car out for a test drive 2 years after beginning the great clutch change.
There was a problem with the breaks not working like they used to, having to push the pedal all the way down before they worked. I didn't think I would need to bleed the breaks after putting it all back together again. I know that the breaks work better with the engine running so maybe it's something to do with that and how long it has been sitting doing nothing?

for sitting that long fluid repacement is a good idea
bleed the brakes
are you sure the master cyl rubber cups are sound
like do the brakes pump up hard?

Yeah I think they are ok but I am not sure. They pump up yes. I figure an hour bleeding them will tell all.
I got another problem though. I swept the leaves from the gutter at the end of the windscreen and lo and behold, a crack was revealed. I know that something, maybe a tool slid down the bonnet and hit the screen where the crack is but when I looked there was no crack. I didn't notice it until I lowered the car off of the chassis stands and swept the leaves away.
So now with obriens quoting $414 to fit a new screen I have to work out whether it is all worth it.
I paid $700 for the car and since $200 for new clutch and head gasket. I still have to replace the head gasket but with $400 for a new windscreen and $520 for 1 years rego I wondering if maybe I should just forget about it all. But that way I have a car running and registered for a year for $1000 and I don't think much else is wrong with it and I won't be able to buy another car for that money in the same mechanical condition so what to do what to do.
At least I drove it around the block a couple of times and up to the servo to put air in the tyres.
Couldn't put a bit of petrol in cause I couldn't get the cap off lol.

$414 wow i get them for $175 fitted shop around that is to much . if the crack is at the bottom of the screen see if it can be drilled and filled .
or spray the screen with water then park it in a dusty spot may hide the crack for your rwc

That was cause I told her I was only expecting to pay about $180 and because they took so long to get back to me they knocked it down from $514. Unfortunately your brilliant idea won't help because even though the crack is very low down the examiner would still see it from inside the car.
But thanks for confirming the lower price I will now shop around some more.

O'Brien specialises in "drive-in drive-out, while you wait have a cup of coffee dear, you are covered by insurance so don't worry about the cost, dear, just fill out this form." type of screen replacement. Convenient yes, but not the cheapest around.
I've got a local bloke who comes out and does it, $250 for a gen 2 (2 done) and gen 3 (1 done) windscreen. "Instant windscreens", look around for something similar in your area.
