View Full Version : What happened to my car?!?!?!

Ok, so mum got a recon engine into my old TS and now she's driving it around. I know it will never drive like when I had it, but it's got a problem that her mechanic is either ignoring or just ok with.

My Falcon's having a breather before rego, so I took the Magna for a run to drop my kids off... about 100 kms round trip.

First thing I noticed was it seemed to be revving heaps harder than it should have... i.e. 2000rpm @ 80kms, and 2250rpm @ 100kms. It's also running hot (temp gauge hitting 2/3 up the scale), and slight, but not nasty overheated oil smell from under the bonnet.

I know enough about engines to know my car (just starting to retrain and learn in the auto field), but any pointers from you learned folk would be appreciated. :)

Cheers!
Mattee.

Will check the thermo, give it a flush and check the radiator. There is still flow through the radiator... current in the coolant when the motors running. And it doesn't appear related to water or engine or even ambient air temperature... it's running harder all the time - from start to stop.

It also idle's rough and is also prone to stalling!! So I think magnaman's on the right track with timing.

It seems to be revving a bit higher before it shifts... it's got REALLY long legs. The whole thing seems to be generally working harder than it should be.

i ask about the auto as it could be in limp mode . which will rev high and raise the temp when going over 80kmh .
