been on the hunt for a 6g75 lateley, anyway came across this motor when i was out woop woop for work :) lol. the car has been in a side impact, engine mount and part of the block is cracked (see pics). its cheap thats why im asking the question (about an 8th of what you pay on ebay and the like)

Have had a few like this, they are no good for mounting in a Magna as the top ps pump mount is broken, I would say that the block is damaged where the ac pump bracket is bolted on and this is also used on a Magna. Add to this the block is also cracked around the main engine mount, again common.

I have seen these welded up but the cost to get this done far outweighs the worth of saving money as you really dont know what has happened internally.

Other concern, is the timing belt still in time in so far as cams etc go, has the cam been pushed back and damaged the head and the rocker gear, have also had one like this and the rocker gear was damaged where the rocker gear is used as bearings.

but as seeign as a few of you have done the conversion into a magna, can you use the mounting brackets for the AC, PS and such from the 74

Generally, an engine with damage to the block is only good for parts or as scrap metal.
If you have a 380 and want engine parts as spares, it's worth having though.

Not if the mounts on the block are broken off. Generally, an engine with damage to the block is only good for parts or as scrap metal.

fair enough, what i was thinking is that if the mount on the block is ok, and its just the alloy bit, it can be replaced. the part that im to to keen on is that nice crack near the head. some sort of tab

That crack probably goes all the way to the cylinder bore. Take that head off and you will see it goes a long way. She is dead, an ex engine, never to fire again. Sad but true.

the crack im referring to is the one is the 2nd pic, ill pull the covers off and have a look further to actually see whats going on with it

Yes, that's the one I'm looking at too.

You would need to take the head off to see how far it goes.

Keeping in mind the type of steel used in Magna blocks, and the width of the visible part of the crack, . . . . . blah blah blah.

You have obviously decided this engine can be salvaged, and intend to buy it. I will stop wasting my breath now.

I was only trying to get a better understanding and trying to see what people think. With my thoughts as well

Max, if you have something constructive or you even have a remote clue on what you are on about then comment, clearly you don't so stfu

Perry, if the wrecker will allow you to take some bits such as covers and brackets off you will get a better idea. In can say 100% that the rear head has damage which will affect the upper pump mount. Will not be critical as the other mount facing back should be fine provided lower mount is not damaged

Air on bracket is a concern as I have seen pumps screwed like that before with most mounts on the block destroyed. If only one damaged you will be fine

Other 2 concerns are what damage the crack behind the mount has done if any and if the timing belt is still in time as again I have seen bits fall in the broken covers and jump teeth

Thanks mal, that's that just cleared things up for me

i went and had a look at the motor today, it's screwed, where the engine mount joins the block there's 2 chunks missing, so it may stay where it is. At the same wreckers there is a totaled 380 there( everything apart from the front end) .the car was in a roll over accident when the passenger sadly passed away, now I can get the motor out of this one but I have to get it my self. The owner of the yard is a bit superstitions , around the same k's but, around the same price(bit cheaper). Not sure how to get this one out the car as I can't use the hoist, but I can use the forklift . Any tips on getting this motor out of the car.

Connect engine to one of the arms of forklift using an old seatbelt or chains (as you would to an engine crane), and lift it out?

that's what i was thinking, or drop it down from under neath, not sure which is easiest
