So I wanted digital TV to watch in my lunch breaks at work and my Pioneer 2450 struggles with even the smallest divx file.
Enter Kmart's Thompson brand HD PVR model # DH1685P. For $39 you get a set top box with USB, 5volt power supply and remote.
Now the best thing about this unit is it's small size but also the fact it uses a DC power supply. Also the unit turns on when ever power is put to it making it perfect for car application. Take an old Nokia car charger or similar 5volt and solder the connections so you end up with 12volts in and 5 out for the Set top box. Wire the positive to your ignition power (Usually red) and ground to ground (usually black). This way the set top box turns on and off with the car. Next desolder the IR reciever from the set top box and extend its 3 legs with servo power cable or similar. This will allow you to place the IR sensor somewhere it will actually work. Use a standard usb extension cable to bring the usb port to an accessible area. Grab a powered car HDTV antenna off eBay for $20 posted and you are set! I installed the antenna cable around the edge of the roof, under the lining and rubber making the install very fast and easy.
Kmart sells 2 models make sure you get the $39 "P" version as this has the USB port. :-)
I now have HD TV channels and means to play divx properly with memory resume!
