Hey,
Well on the weekend my old tp got a new heart (block/bottom end) and all is good
except when i put it into D,2 or 1 it seems to stay in 3rd all the time, wont change up or down just stays in the same gear!!!! i have had this problem before and it was a broken wire too one of the pulse generatior's in the tranny, but its not that this time.
P, N and R still work fine!!!!
So any idea's???
its got me stuffed!!!
thanks

Can you still smoke em up
well its stuck in limp mode, supposed to protect itself or something.
Could be many things, hows your tranny fluid level?
check your neutral safety switch, fuses, kickdown band and switch. Check that all the pulse generators are working fine, could be shift control solenoids.
As you said your car got a new bottom end, did you/they take out the engine and gearbox. Maybe they drained the oil (or it leaked) and they didnt refill it. The selector cable could also have been reattached incorrectly. Maybe just something electrical wasnt plugged back in.
Could be alot of things, man i love manuals :D
well its stuck in limp mode, supposed to protect itself or something. Correct, the trans stays in third when there is a problem... take the car somewhere to get it looked at
Also in the glove box (open the glove box and look up), you'll see a plug... if you connect an analog multimeter to two of the pins, the auto trans computer sends out pulses... the pulses are error codes that will help ya find out what the problem is
But i can't remember what pins it is (me thinks it's 5 & 8) and what the error code pulses are... someone have a service manual?
