Ok well technically not new to magna - i had a piece of **** white 90 magna wagon for about 3 years, but new to the magna enthusiast world :)

So Ive just got myself a 2000 TH standard executive (see pic) which i would like to do a few mild & sensible mods to.
The body & interior is quite tidy - good paint, no dents or marks. It's been lowered slightly & has wheels.
The only performance mods I want to do is filter, exhaust, & reflash. The rest will be just minor cosmetic upgrades - verada headlights, clear tail lights, stereo, etc.

So my questions initially are around the intake side of things - Im wondering whether to go a K&N pannel filter & keep the standard airbox, or go a pod filter.
From what I've read if you use a pod filter you need the K&N rampod filter because it's designed for that motor & the MAS filter? Other pod filters cause issues with the airflow sensor?

As for exhaust - do i go muffler or cannon? Is there much of a performance difference between them?

Also wondering if anyone on the Gold Coast can suggest a good & knowledgeable mechanic that works on magnas? Can anyone recommend someone to reflash on the gold coast also?

Any advice/suggestions on this would be great.

Thanx in advance! :)

Leave the filter alone. Keep it clean and stock.

I have a k&n filter because I am a knob and need k&n stuff on my car.

Get a lukey or redback rear muffler. I got mine done for $350. Don't get a cannon.

You might consider doing a couple of other performance mods before tuning though.

Smartest thing you have ever said..:)

Yeah leave the standard filter in. Tests show there is no gain from putting a K&N in and in some cases a slight power lose.

Really? Is there no difference between the standard air filter & a high-flow filter?? I'm baffled by that!....

As for the exhaust I can choose from the redback muffler with tip & hot dog (exhaust guy said this sounds best), or with a zetti muffler (who ive been told also make lukey?).
I want it to sound good but not at the expense of performance.

As for other mild mods what would you guys suggest?

Also how can I upload a pic of my car?

Upload the picture to facebook photobucket or another site that allows you to upload photos then copy image location into box that pops up when you hit add picture button

The only benefit is that the paper filters are pricey and need replacement often. the K&N uses a $20 recharge kit and doesn't need replacement for a much longer time.

The last genuine filter I got from Mitsu was only $35. Not a bad price considering they seem to last a long time before getting too dirty. The filter in my sisters verada is almost 2 years old and still isn't too dirty. I replace them about once a year just to make me feel better.

im still tempted to get a highflow pannel filter...just for the sake of it... :/

got my exhaust today - highflow cat, 2 1/2", 2 x resonators, redback muffler - sounds nice! :D

Will it save you money? YES! Will it increase performance... NO! However, it will increase air-flow and if you even went down the path of modding your engine and ECU then you could see some small gains depending on the work you do to the car. If its stays standard, no gains are possible from installing a K&N panel filter.

Also, you will be more susceptible to smaller particles getting through if you go the K&N panel route, oh and a slightly gruntier engine note. But remember, no power difference.

well i got it so....

sounds great with the exhaust too :)

so now with the increased flow in & out will that mess with the ecu?

There's no 'increase in the flow in & out' from a K&N filter. It does nothing to the power of a car. There's an ecu & a maf sensor in the intake line that just readjusts to the new filter meaning it's just the same as before. In fact some owners have lost a few kw's because of this, not to mention damaged their MAF sensor's from all the oil off the filter that's spat all over the sensor. In my opinion that $100 you spend for one is a complete waste of money. New filters are $30 and work fine. The magna air intake system is actually well designed. Most modifications to it do nothing to increase power.

Remember, it's just a filter, and air needs to be compressed in order to actually increase power (hence forced induction).
