The SRS light on my 2000 NL Pajero has comeon and stays on all the time. We were in a very hot area at the time, but the engine at no stage overheated (I have a watchdog on the engine and also watched the temp gauge carefully, but it was very hot outside when the light came on)

Is there anything I can do to remedy the problem or do I take it to my stealership?

SRS has to do with airbags and collision detectors, nothing to do with the engine - has a different warning light.

You could check connectors for airbags, collision detectors, but you would have to know where these are. Probably better to do a dealership trip to read error code, fix, and reset.

Thx Madmax for your reply. I was aware that the SRS light had nothing to do with the engine, but the light came on when it was very HOT outside (and I was towing our caravan as well). I was wondering if the fault could have been triggered by the temperature, even though the engine itself did not overheat or even go close to it. The light is still on. I may have to go to the dealer and find out what & where it is.

hey erad, maybe pulling the caravan has loosened a rear airbag sensor?
not that i know anything about SRS
but better to have it checked as it is a safety issue

Yeah find someone who can read the code and you might find what triggered it.
