I'm wanting to upgrade the dizzy to coil on pack ignition. I want to completely ditch the dizzy as it's bulky and remove the mess of all the ignition leads. This will give me greater control of the engine with my aftermarket computer.
The stock ecu uses the cam angle sensor on the dizzy for auto transmission shifting.
Before I cut the wire and check for myself, is anyone able to tell me from experiance what I could expect to happen if the ecu doesn't see this signal? I'm expecting at most the car going into limp mode.
Any help would be radical!
Try messaging ego mate, i believe his turbo beast was converted

Ahh.. Just gone through the service manual. Cam sensor isn't mentioned in any of the transmission trouble shooting. Electrical diagrams for the auto transmission don't show any relation to the cam sensor.
I think I should be right to cut the wire and see what happens.
If you cut the wire, I expect that the thing will not start at all. It requires a signal from the cam telling the ECU that the cam is turning and where it is in relation to the crankshaft. without this information, the ECU won't know when and where to fire the fuel or spark.
In my first effort at changing the timing belt on my Pajero, I pinched the crankshaft sensor wire when refitting the front bracket. It wouldn't go. I checked back and found the pinched wire, repaired it and it fired first time. I suspect that the cam angle sensor will have the same result.

I'm using an aftermarket computer in parallel with the stock ecu. Question was if cutting the camshaft sensor will effect the transmission shifting.
Stock ecu is controlling the shifting and idle while the ems is running the motor. I have Sunday off, I'll de-pin the connector and get back to you guys.
