Hi guys,
I own a 2002 TJ Magna Sports.
On monday I sent my car to a transmission specialist to get a problem checked and it still has not been rectified. This problem only happens when i shift to reverse. When I make this gear shift, the car makes a big thump and then it is capable of rolling in reverse but if i hit the accelerator, the engine revs, but does not pick up speed.
The specialist said "It sounds like you may have an issue with your reverse clutch cushion spring. The failure of these springs is very common on the F455 transmission." Apparently (or so it seems) this is the case and he found the spring to be in four pieces. He replaced the spring and quoted me a whopping $1200 dollars!!! Problem is that despite this, he still notices the car does that large thump which he thinks is the reason to the damaged spring. He assured me that he will get to the bottom of this free of charge. However, he has checked several times and still cant fix the problem. He told me he even contacted the Australian Transmission Rebuilding Association to get answers and he couldn't find any. Now he tells me that if he cant fix it, he'll have to just give it to me, still with the price of $1200.
What should I do?
