1 mechanic who was going to service my car (210k) suggested i get the injectors cleaned to which i agreed...then today i went to a shop that specializes in magnas & the guy there said it was a waste of money "they either work or they dont" was his exact words.
He also said the wynns additives or cleaners did nothing...for years ive suspected that these cleaners didn't do much but was quite surprised at his view on not cleaning injectors at all.
I mean its good because it saves me money on the service but Id rather spend it if there is a benefit...

Anyone have a thought on this?

The so called specialist is a **** wit

I have had so many customers comment post injector clean stating that economy was better, idle better and bottom end power was restored.

Injectors get carbon on the tips, get gum internally and will not spray properly and will dribble, your specialist is more than likely either too stupid to understand Efi systems or too tight to buy the equipment

As for wynns I have again shown to many the benefits, a recent issue when a transfer case seal shat itself and unknowing he had an issue he drove about 300km with not a drop in there.

This is just one of many cases I have seen.

The additives depending on the conditions may not provide a noticeable benefit, however removing the injectors and using an ultra sonic cleaner works well, much better doing this in some cases as opposed to forking out for new injectors.

yeah see i was surprised when he said not to clean them - i figured they could get clogged up a little or end up with deposits on them...

typically how much should someone be paying to get their injectors cleaned?

If it's just the bottle in the fuel tank you can pick them up for about $10. However I am very doubtful of their claims, maybe under ideal conditions it will fix some problems.

If your going to do it, do it right. Get them ultrasonically cleaned or take them to someone who can pump a cleaning solution through them.

this is how i was going to have it done but the guy at the workshop (that specializes in magnas) said there was no point...??

At a guess I would say he was confused with the in tank solution, or a fool.

Trust me - cleaning the injectors made a fantastic difference to my wife's TF Magna. Well worth the effort.

Has anyone tried making a mini-kit to clean injectors at home? I've seen people make circuits that turn the injector on by a push-button switch and they run some injector cleaning fluid through it.

I think my injectors are blocked up because i'm really lacking low-end power on petrol and power delivery isn't smooth at all. On cold it's very choppy. Car seems to lack power up to 2800-3000rpm, then pulls hard after that. Definitely not like it used too a few months ago.

Could this kid of circuit and cleaning process work or do I need the fluid to be better compressed?

If you can find someone who does the Wynns or similar system up your way, this also cleans the inlet tracks, tops of valves, tops of pistons etc. The system is on board

The only disadvantace is you can not do a leak test as easily (well you can but can not tell which injector is leaking) and you can not check the spray pattern. Both systems have their advantages and dis advantages

Drmunroe - if you have access to an air compressor then it might be cheaper to buy the fuel injection cleaning tool and do it at home.

I've seen those little tools that connect onto the fuel line and send pressurized cleaning fluid through the system for about $250 on ebay.

Second hand ones going for $150-170US

You could probably buy it, use it and then sell it off again on ebay lol

Otherwise maybe try your luck in the video I posted earlier? The syringe connected to the can would be pressurised, but I'm not sure its enough to properly clean the injector. That way you can also see the spray pattern which is important.

Thanx for the advise guys - Im getting a big service on my car tomorrow at Alpine Mechanical in Mermaid (gold coast) & they are doing an injector clean for $210 if i remember correctly...

Although I like DIY, I'd rather leave things like this to the experts...plus i dont usually have the patience for things like this lol

I have the same switch setup but have the injector in the ultrasonic cleaner whilst switching it off and on and you can see the deposits coming out as it switches on and off, ive done this on my other cars and it has made a difference, i suppose it depends the condition of your injectors and the results you get, im no expert but as long as it works ill keep doing it, probably depends on if you have the confidence to pull the intake off and on when needed too, its really not that difficult, so a $40 ultrasonic cleaner from Aldi and some cleaning fluid,(acetone) does the job for under $60 and your labour, theres some good info on this on youtube, check it out
