hi everyone, is it a possibility a low idol is causing power steering issues?
when at idol with no accelerator power steering is barley existent, foot on brake and bump up the revs and the power steering is back, also do get belt squeels occasionally (not power steering belt when im accelorating) . ideas? :ninja:
car is a tj ralliart, idleing at 500rpm roughly

It is possible, I'd assume at the low of RPM the Pump wouldn't be turning fast enough. Belt sequels are loose belts due to a lack of tension. Tighten the belts or replace them If they look worn.
Arn't these spose to Idle around 750rpm?

ECU controls idol speed via the ISC. Should be 750 rpm hot. Your ISC may need replacing.
Sounds like your power steering belt is slipping badly as well.

only started doing it after the mountain run :D
so whats an isc? is it hard to replace?

resetting ecu now to see if it fixes anything.

ISC = idle controller. It's a device under the throttle body that controls the idle. Basically controls the air flowing to the engine since the throttle body is closed during idle. It's electronic and a usual culprit for idle problems.
May not need to be replaced just cleaned up. You'll need to remove the air intake snorkel, pop off the throttle body and then you'll get access to the ISC. Remove it and the throttle body from the intake plenum and then use a carby cleaner and a rag to clean it out nicely. Get around and clean every nook and cranny on both the throttle body and isc. Fit them all back and use new gaskets and o-rings.
If the problem still exists, then maybe then its time for a replacement.

thanks for that info. will have to look into that if the ecu reset doesn't help!

pull the battery off for an hour, resetting ecu has caused the trans to re learn itself and its running rough, ill have to do the learning procedure now.
more info on the power steering
it seems to be worse when the car is sitting on and angle?? ideas anyone. im going to take it to a mechanic next week i think

I mistook a squeal from the power steering on my old corolla as a slipping belt. It wasn't until I replaced the belt to find the squeal remained that I found it was verrrrry low on power steering fluid - my bad!
